Intro to Harry Potter Books

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter Series. It was written by J.K. Rowling and published in 1997. The book is about an 11-year-old boy named Harry Potter who discovers that he is a wizard and has been invited to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry lives in a cupboard under the stairs in the house of the Dursleys, who all treat him poorly. First line of Harry Potter: “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.” The last line: “I’m going to have a lot of fun with Dudley this summer….”

    One of the most famous wizards of modern times, the only child of James and Lily Potter. Harry’s birth was overshadowed by a prophecy naming either himself or Neville Longbottom as the one with the power to vanquish Lord Voldemort.

    He is a major antagonist and a student in Harry Potter’s year. He is spoiled, and rude and shows no remorse for his actions. Draco was raised in an atmosphere of regret that the Dark Lord had not succeeded in taking command of the Wizarding World.

    Hermione Granger

    She is one of the Brightest Witch of Her Age. She learns about the hidden magical community on her 11th birthday. She is best friends with Harry Potter and Ron Weasley

  • Lord  Voldemort

    Lord Voldemort

    He is the main antagonist and the archenemy of Harry Potter. He is also known as the Dark Lord, You-Know-Who, and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. He was obsessed with his parentage and searched for evidence that his father went to Hogwarts.

  • Dobby

    Dobby

    He is a house elf who was with the Malfoy family but after Harry Potter help he is the owner of himself. His old masters were Dark Wizards who treated him cruelly. Harry tricks Lucius Malfoy into handing Dobby a sock, thereby freeing him from his servitude. Dobby is devoted to Harry Potter and he puts himself at great risk when he goes out of his way to protect the young Harry Potter from what Dobby knows would be significant danger.

  • Argog

    Argog

    Aragog is a minor antagonist, and he is a giant spider, or Acromantula, that was raised by Rubeus Hagrid. He was bred by Hagrid in his second year at Hogwarts. He can communicate with humans vocally. Loyal to Hagrid but everyone else as prey.

  • Green Snake

    Nagini

    Nagini is a long green female snake and Lord Voldemort’s pet. Nagini was originally a female human Maledict, which means she was cursed to transform into a beast. Nagini’s name comes from the Naga, which are snake-like mythical creatures in Indonesian mythology.

    Norberta

    Norberta is a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon that was hatched by Rubeus Hagrid. She is violent and ferocious.

    Hogwarts Grounds, Scotland, Great Britain. Permanent residences; Acromantula. Centaurs, Deer, fluffy (3-headed dog), flying Ford Anglia, foxes, grawp (Hagrid half-giant brother), trolls, werewolves, thestrals, hippogriffs, and unicorns.

  • Diagon Alley

    Diagon Alley

    Permanent residences: Madam Malkin, Florean Fortescue, Garrick Ollivander. Inside the Alley was an assortment of restaurants, shops, and other sights, some even had tables out front with colored umbrellas. During the days or weeks before school starts Hogwarts the location was packed with witches and wizards.

  • Gringotts

    Gringotts

    Gringotts is the only known bank in the wizarding world. Gringotts is a multi-story white building with underground vaults that stretch miles beneath the streets of London. The highest- security vaults are located at the deepest. Wizards and witches keep their money and other valuables in the vaults. The creation of Gringotts was linked to the 14th-century wizarding economic bubble, which happened the century before.

    The shop was established in 1641 by Ambrosius Flume and his wife. It’s a popular destination for Hogwarts students who visit Hogmeade on the weekends. Honeyduke’s sells a variety of sweets, including nougat, coconut ice, toffees, fizzing whizzbees, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, Chocolate Frog

Magical Objects

  • Blood Quill

    Blood Quill

    Blood quills are also known as Black Quills. What the user wrote would be carved onto the back of their hand and the blood from the words sliced into the hand would be magically siphoned and used as ink on the parchment. The wound on the back of the hand would then heal, slightly redder than before, and then open up when the user wrote again. Continuous use of it would eventually scar the back of the hand. The quill was black, long, thin, and extremely sharp.

  • Sorting Hat

    Sorting Hat

    The Sorting Hat is a magical hat that determines which of the four Hogwarts Houses each new student belongs to. The hat is sentient and could have the ability to read the minds and hearts of the students who wear it. The four founders jointly enhanced the hat to ensure that students would be sorted into their eponymous houses.

  • Time Turner

    Time Turner

    Time-Turner is a magical device that can take a witch or wizard back in time. It looks like an hourglass attached to a chain, and the chain allows the user to know which field the Time-Turner's power is applied to. The Time-Turner is worn like a necklace.

  • The enchanted Car

    Ford Anglia Flying Car

    The car first appeared in the first act of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets when Ron, Fred, and George Weasley used it to rescue Harry from the Dursley home. become invisible, with the use of a specially installed device called an Invisibility Booster.

Quidditch

  • Keeper

    Keeper

    Keepers are one position in the wizarding sport of Quidditch. Keepers guard the three goalposts and try to stop the other team’s Chasers from scoring. The keeper also wore the most protection than any other position. Keepers are generally kept inside this area to prevent the opposition from scoring. Keepers were only allowed out of this area to head off incoming Chaser.

  • Seeker

    Seeker

    A Seeker is a position in the wizarding sport of Quidditch. The Seeker's goal is to catch the Golden Snitch. The game ends when the Seeker catches the Snitch.The Seeker is a crucial player in Quidditch because the game doesn't end until the Seeker catches the Snitch.

  • Chaser

    Chaser

    There are three Chasers per team. The Chaser controls the Quaffle and tries to get it through the goal hoops past the keeper. Their job is to gain possession of the Quaffle and to score a goal by throwing the ball through the hoops at the end of the pitch. Being the chaser is also dangerous due to the inclusion of the Beaters, attempting to knock the chasers off of their brooms to help their teammates.

  • Beater

    Beater

    These players carry bats around for the purpose of beating the bludgers attempting to hit or distract the opposing teams’ chasers in order to make them drop the ball. There are two beaters per team. The beaters also try and protect the members of their team from being hit off their brooms by a Bludger.
